Carolina has a new hat

I wanted a new hat for Carolina on her birthday table. She already has two in rotation, her knitted EZ baby bonnet (knitted here) and Butterflies. Rotation is the right word for it, because those hats don't stay long on her head, no matter how cold it is, Carolina just pulls them off. And I put the hat back on. And sometimes it stays on her head for a while.

For the new hat, as I was all busy with making her birthday book, I relied on other mamas' wonderful craftivity. At a handmade fair three weeks ago (blogged here) I saw some nice hats at a stall (or actually it was a table with a suitcase on it - it was a "suitcase fair"), by bootshauskind. We tried some on and didn't find a hat in Carolina's size - but I took the business card and later contacted Lena, the woman/mama behind bootshauskind.

A couple of days later and just in time for Carolina's 1st birthday, the new hat was personally delivered at our house by Lena (we live in the same quarter of Oldenburg, it seems). A cute reversible hat with little woodland creatures on one side, and red stars on pink fabric on the other.

It fits.

And Carolina loves to pull it off.

Carolina's Birthday Book

On Carolina's birthday table was one present "made my mama" - she probably couldn't care less right now, but it was important to me.

Making her book has kept me busy most of my November spare time, but it was a labour of love, enjoying stitching away when Carolina was having her afternoon naps and the daylight was still good.

It is a lot of felt appliqué on vintage fabric, with templates from the book Sew Liberated.

I used more pink than the original version in the book.

And designed a little free butterfly instead of the original aquarium fish.

Enjoy!

Mama

postcard design by Karin Rabe

The purest thing in the world is the heart of the mother, the heart chakra, the center of the mother. It can move God. It can move the Universe. It can cause an effect beyond limitation. The heart of the mother is the greatest power of Infinity ever given to any finite being.

It is not necessary that you should be married, you should be pregnant, or should be this or that. The most important part of  a woman is that she should enough spirit, enough flow of spirit, enough dialogue we call it, that she can maintain her grace and her respect. - Yogi Bhajan -

317

... was the number of times I counted hearing the word "Mama" this Sunday at home. 255 times uttered by Carolina and 62 times from Clara's voice. This only slightly exceeded by estimated my 247 guesses when I started this little Sunday game of mine.

Clara was really curious why I was jotting down those funny lines all day long and I promised to tell her at the end of the day - which only resulted in a lot of intentional "mamas" at the dinner table (not counted), of course.

Today I am happy to just hear "my name" again - and react to it.

Pin Pictures

While I was putting Carolina to nap, I asked Clara to stay in the living room - silently. Clara was bored.
When I came back, this smiley face greeted me.

I have Carolina's-work-in-progress-birthday-present laid out on the living room table and Clara found the pin cushion (she also likes to sort the pins by colour, like here).

Pink Inspiration

Thanks to the repair service, my little pink camera is back and fixed! While I thank Hubby for giving me his old chunky one for a while, I attribute my recent lack of blogging inspiration to it, to not having my usual eyes extension handy by my side.

So what happened over the last days?

I photographed a house that said: red.

On Saturday, Carolina and I went to see a handmade fair.

But it was too dark to photograph inside ("Magical Christmas Atmosphere").

And I didn't want to seem like a spy stealing ideas...

Carolina was a living knitted graffiti. That could have also been an appropriate outfit for the fair we went to on Sunday - St. Martin's Fair at the Oldenburg Waldorf school. I didn't take a single picture - but it was similar to last year (blogged here) and Clara did something with soap, again.

My last year's blog post about the St. Martin Festival at Clara's kindergarten was also better than my picture this year.

Clara in front of her school.

And finally, taken with my little pink camera back in my hands, last week's good progress on Carolina's birthday present.

Pink inspiration, you are back.

Work in Progress

Started working on Carolina`s birthday present this week. Lots of felt, a little sewing, sweet appliqué - three more weeks to the Big Day.

Pink Moment of the Week

... today together with purple.

Clara came back from a school friend's home with this star she made. The mother of her friend is an avid paper crafter - it seems that Christmas crafting is just round the corner.

Adjust-Tea

Seriously, coming back and settling in after a vacation is not so easy. All the little messes that were left behind didn't just magically disappear (by forgetting them) while being away and are now topped with loads of laundry.

But when I came back, some pre-holiday-ordered books had also arrived and with them some free tea samples. Teas with comforting names.

Planning new yoga courses.

Did I ever mention how much I love my job as a Kundalini Yoga teacher with its potential for personal growth, well-being, fullfillment, community, communication and creativity?

Dreaming of new travels.

Mama's Mallorca Moments

Last round of pictures - I found some more on my broken camera.

Bye, bye holidays! Hello handmade home.

Handmade Mallorca

This vacation was more about family then about crafting, of course. I managed to knit a couple of rows of my lace stola and that was it. And it was OK. But I kept my crafty eyes open, for sure.

In Palma near the Cathedral I saw a woman selling her crochet creations.

I found a shop selling buttons (the right side is only buttons) in the Old City of Palma.

And we had a lot of chances to show off my handmades from home.

Plain Pink in Palma.

For the one day, that was cooler - Flagstaff Jacket and Little Butterflies for Carolina.

I wore my Mama Yoga Tunic (and a sling with baby) with Mama pride.

And last but not least, the promised photos of the Mallorca Pants.
